Cookies and Other Technologies

We collect information automatically through the use of "cookies". A cookie is a text file containing small amounts of information that a website can send to your browser, which may then be stored in your browser or on your device as a tag that distinguishes your computer but does not name you. We may use cookies for various purposes, for example, to facilitate the use of the website, to collect information for statistical and analytical purposes, and for security purposes. Some of the cookies may expire when the session ends and you exit your browser. Other cookies may be stored on your device. If you wish to block cookies, then please use the help button in your browser and follow the instructions.

There are other technologies that can be used for similar purposes, such as HTML5 local storage and local shared objects (LSOs). We may use such technologies for authenticating you, for keeping track of information you have provided to us, and for storing your preferences or information about your visit to a web page. If you prefer not to use such technologies, you may configure your browser not to accept it or to notify and require approval. Some parts of our Site may not function properly if such technologies are turned off.

Also, we may use what is known as "internet tags" (also called "web beacons", "action tags", "single-pixel GIFs", "clear GIFs", "invisible GIFs", and "1-by-1 GIFs"). If you would like more information about web tags associated with online advertising or how to opt-out of third-party collection of information, please visit the Network Advertising Initiative website, an independent website.

Google Analytics

We also use Google Analytics, a web analytics service provided by Google. Google Analytics uses cookies (see above) to help us analyze how users use the site. The information generated by the cookie about your use of the website will be transmitted to and stored by Google on servers in the United States. However, your IP address will be truncated before it is passed on to Google in the USA (“IP masking”). The entire IP address will be first transferred to a Google server in the USA and truncated there only in exceptional cases. Google will use this information on our behalf for the purpose of evaluating your use of the Website, compiling reports on Website activity for us and providing to us other services relating to Website activity and internet usage. Social plug-ins

We may use so-called “social plug-ins” of various social networks, for example Facebook, Twitter or Google. These plug-ins are functions of the respective social network through which you can share content of our Site with your social media contacts, for instance, or recommend this content to others. Social plug-ins can be identified by the logo of the respective social network.

Via the integrated social plug-ins, the social network operators, which are usually located in the United States of America, will be informed that you have called up the respective pages of our Site. If you are logged into any of the social networks at the same time, the operator will be able to match the relevant call-ups with your account at the respective social network. Moreover, if you interact with social plug-ins, the relevant information will be forwarded to the respective social network. As far as we know, the following data will be transferred in the process: IP address, user identification if you are logged in at the relevant service, previously visited site (referrer) if you followed a link, type and settings of browser, plug-ins installed such as Adobe® Flash® or Adobe® Reader®, URL of the site which the social plug-in is embedded in, date and time of your visit, technical details of your operating system, location-based information, and cookies.

Even if you are not a member of any of the social networks listed above, it may be possible for them to find out your IP address via the social plug-in and store it. For details on the purpose and scope of data processing, collection and use by the social networks we are using, and on your rights and optional settings in this context, please refer to the social networks' statements on data protection to be found on the respective websites.

You can deactivate any or all social plug-ins at any time. You may also be able to technically prevent any data transfer to social networks. To do so, please adjust the security settings in the web browser you are using. For instructions on how to do this, please refer to the “Help” section in your web browser. In individual cases it is also possible to block social plug-ins by means of add-ons for your browser.
